When designing a new apartment hotel in Bohinj, we wanted to maintain the high-quality characteristics of the site that are predominately the open space and attractive views of the mountains.

We started with the concept of a single big block that is logically broken down into four longitudinal, mutually consistent units. Furthermore, we have subtracted parts of the units so we could create an in-between space that is largely designed into green areas with open views in all directions and with an emphasis on the outstanding nature in its surroundings. Every individual longitudinal unit’s design and the choice of materials were inspired by the existing building structures in the area while using building materials that are in harmony with nature. Parking spaces are hidden underground with the sole purpose to make more space for high-quality green open spaces. Individual units have three floors, with an upper floor that is designed like a loft. The apartments are of different sizes and types, with some also designed as duplexes. In the basement a wellness program is located that is directly accessible from each apartment unit.
With such a design, the goal was to ensure high-quality views, and to sustain the relationship between built and unbuilt areas. This is a modern paraphrase of traditional construction in accordance with existing buildings using traditional natural materials (stone, wood) – the supporting structure is made of wood as well. It is a sustainable way of building with natural materials
